Vista General Questions

I'm new to all of this, so please excuse my 2 n00b questions:
1) Where do I get the beta? I've just subscribed to TechNet and haven't gotten the first shipment yet (they said 4-6 weeks).
2) Is there a Reader like there is for the XP groups? This URL is what I'm talking about: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/newsgroups/reader.mspx?dg=microsoft.public.windowsxp.general&lang=en&cr=US

1. You can get the beta if you are a tester or an MSDN subscriber. (I don't know what about TechNet subscribers) 2. http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.windows.vista.general&cat=en_us_d27abce9-8b42-b7e8-af0f-ec3c418c66c8&lang=en&cr=us or you can browse the newsgroups with Outlook (the newsgroup server's address is msnews.microsoft.com

You should receive the latest build of Windows Vista with your first shipment of TechNET. After which you will receive monthly updates, not necessarily with the latest build, but it should be included.
Here are the instructions to access the .windowsxp.general ngs http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/newsgroupsetup.mspx
After setting up Outlook Express as a news reader, click news groups on the Outlook Express toolbar and type in microsoft.public.windowsxp.general and click subscribe, you will also see other Windows XP newsgroups listed. -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm

Thanks to all! I just got the paperwork with my TechNet subscription info on it - I'll cruise the site for it!
FWIW - Still using XPPro - will switch to Vista once I've read up on it a bit. I know that I can view these things in OE (actually, I use Thunderbird) - but I prefer the web interface so that I can keep all my forums and help groups in one place.

Make sure you assign a minimum of 15 GBs to the partition you to install it on. For a good experience 512 MBs of RAM or more, Vista loves RAM Back up any important data you have before installing Burn the ISO to a disk and install it, its the best way to install Vista -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm

ABSOLUTE MINIMUM 512mb, people are reporting this to be not enough though it will load on a system with this little ram
build 5270 barely ran at all when i only had 1 gb of dual channle ram, now it runs ok, with 2 gbs dual channle ram.
the code in this build has not been performance optimised yet. even in a system with amazing specs you will be surprised at how slowly this os can run. at times it can be quite responsive, much of the time you wont have such luck things will get better and better though as new builds come out, but still not sure what the actual system load will be.
